Apple's WWDC 2009

Apple is today holding its WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference). The event is expected to bring new software and hardware improvements to Apples line up.

You may have already noticed that their online store has gone down (image below) indicating that significant updates will be made.

As the event progresses I will be sure to update this post with the latest news. Many rumors have been circulating that a new iPhone will be released along with its new 3.0 software update. Snow Leopard is also rumored to be included in the conference but it is unknown when it will be released.

15" MacBook Pro - Faster processor (3.06GHz Dual Core) options, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 500GB hard drive. Also has a built in SD card slot and better display.

17" MacBook Pro has also been updated. 2.8GHz.

Brand New 13" MacBook Pro has also been updated today. Features backlit keyboard, SD card reader, up to 8GB of RAM also possible.

Apples laptops are now the Greenest line of laptops meeting the EP Gold and Energy Star v5 standards.

Snow Leopard, 45% faster install, refined over 90% of core OS. Expose is now built into the dock. Improved stack features. Grand Central Station, new multicore engine with object oriented framework. Available for all Intel Macs in September. $29 (£?) to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Leopard.

Apple has created OpenCL, similar to OpenGL but with more capabilities.

Safari 4 has been released today, in a stable version. It is 7.8x faster at JavaScript than IE8 and passes Acid3 test.

Brand new Quicktime Interface - Quicktime X. Enables you to trim and share video content via a new timeline.

Mail has been improved in Snow Leopard, now 2.3x faster.

iCal, Address Book and Mail now support Exchange.

iPhone. The iPhone 3.0 OS has got 100 new features. You can now rent and purchase movies from your iPhone as well as download TV shows. Internet tethering (O2 supported) is now available meaning you can use your iPhone's internet connection on your computer. Mac and PC compatible via USB or even bluetooth.

Improvements to iPhones Safari. HTML streaming of audio and video.

Find My iPhone feature. Available to MobileMe customers. You can login and see where your iPhone is on Google maps. Also allows you to send your iPhone a message (e,g Lost: If found return to... etc). A remote wipe feature has been included for if your iPhone is lost or stolen.

iPhone 3.0 is available for free to all iPhone users on June 17th. An estimated UK release time for this is rumored to be at around 6 to 7pm.

iPhone 3GS. The S stands for speed. Available on June 19th. Much faster to operate, for example, launching messages is 2.1x faster. Brand new camera now in the new iPhone 3GS with tap to focus feature. Camera now also captures video, 30fps with audio and auto focus. Video editing features are also now included and you can share it via YouTube, Email etc. iPhone 3GS also now has improved battery life.

Voice control features.

A digital compass. Shows your orientation and integrates with Maps App.
